Core: Typography
Fall 2020- Spring 2021
A year-long introduction course to typography as visual language.
Through weekly exercises and critiques, the course covers letterform structure and classification, spacing (kerning/leading/tracking), grid systems, hierarchy, legibility, and type as image—moving from research and prototyping to finished layouts and clear documentation.
Cropped Letters
Project 2(One-Week Study)Fall 2020
One-week letterform study turning cropped glyph fragments into a modular pattern system. Letter parts are isolated to foreground anatomy and counterforms, then recomposed on a grid to generate repeatable patterns. Deliverables include a tiled pattern set and typographic specimens.
Mantra Merch
Project 3Fall 2020
A mantra is “a sound, syllable, word, or group of words that is considered capable of “creating transformation.”
The selected mantra, “Ride With the Wave,” is translated into a system of flowing letterforms: undulating baselines, crest–trough scale shifts, and rhythmic spacing.
Deliverables include merch mockups, poster studies, and animated GIFs.
‘NINTENDO: a wiki’
Project 6: Wiki Book
Spring 2021
Book design translating a full Wikipedia entry into print. Uses a compact square format and a playful typeface to echo Nintendo’s character while organizing history, people, consoles, and games into a navigable typographic system.
